Description
Three years ago, in early spring, I saw this male Wood Duck come up on the bank of one of the ponds at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary. He posed for a minute or two, then went back into the water. It's not often that I've had the chance to see all of a male Wood Duck's beautiful colouring. Some Wood Ducks manage to stay through the harsh Alberta winter. But, for the most part, when one sees a Wood Duck at the sanctuary, spring is here.
